Test strips are covered when medically necessary and prescribed by your physician. Medicare will reimburse either 80% of the Medicare Fee Schedule or the actual charges, whichever is less.

A doctor's prescription is required for Medicare reimbursement. If your doctor recommends that you test more often than Medicare's guidelines permit, your doctor may assist you in getting authorization from Medicare to receive more self-testing supplies which Medicare will cover after additional requirements are met. In multiple clinical trials examined by Bernstein et al., the CONTOUR®NEXT meter portfolio delivered at least 95% of results within 10% of the laboratory reference value for blood glucose concentrations ≥100 mg/dL and within ±10 mg/dL of the laboratory reference value for blood glucose concentrations <100 mg/dL.
‡ ±8.4% applies to values ≥100mg/dL. An ad hoc analysis demonstrated 95% of results fell within ±8.4 mg/dL or ±8.4% of the laboratory reference values for glucose concentrations <100 mg/dL or ≥100 mg/dL, respectively, when tested via subject-obtained capillary fingertip results (patients with diabetes).
